Ingredients

Scale

Lasagna

  • 12 lasagna noodles

Meat Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Parmesan and garlic seasoning (from the 2 tablespoons total)

Cheese and Bacon Layers

  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 8 strips bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 tablespoon Parmesan and garlic seasoning (remaining)

Ricotta Mixture

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (divided: 1 tablespoon for ricotta mixture, 1 tablespoon for garnish)
  • Pinch of salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the lasagna later.
  2. Cook the noodles: Boil the lasagna noodles according to package directions until al dente, then drain and set aside to cool.
  3. Sauté aromatics: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the finely chopped onion until translucent, about 3-4 minutes, then add minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Brown the meat: Add ground beef and ground pork to the skillet with the onion and garlic. Season with salt and black pepper, cook until the meat is thoroughly browned with no pink remaining, then drain any excess fat.
  5. Finish the meat sauce: Stir in marinara sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and 1 tablespoon of Parmesan and garlic seasoning into the meat. Reduce heat to low and simmer gently for about 5 minutes to blend the flavors.
  6. Prepare ricotta mixture: In a small bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, 1 tablespoon chopped parsley, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly until smooth and creamy.
  7. Assemble first layer: Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce at the bottom of a large ovenproof baking dish. Arrange 4 cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce evenly.
  8. Add cheese and bacon layers: Over the noodles, spread half of the ricotta mixture, then half of the remaining meat sauce. Sprinkle half of the crumbled bacon and half of both the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses evenly over the layer.
  9. Repeat layering: Place another 4 noodles on top, then layer with the remaining ricotta mixture, remaining meat sauce, bacon, and the rest of the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses.
  10. Top with noodles and seasoning: Finish with the last 4 lasagna noodles on top. Sprinkle the remaining 1 tablespoon of Parmesan and garlic seasoning over the noodles, then cover with grated Parmesan cheese evenly.
  11. Bake covered: Cover the assembled dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes to heat through and meld flavors.
  12. Bake uncovered: Remove the foil carefully, then continue baking for another 10-15 minutes until the top cheese layer is golden brown, bubbly, and slightly crisp.
  13. Rest and garnish: Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Garnish with the remaining fresh parsley before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Make sure to drain excess fat after browning the meat to avoid a greasy lasagna.
  • Parmesan and garlic seasoning adds extra flavor; if unavailable, substitute with garlic powder and grated Parmesan cheese mixed together.
  • You can prepare this dish a day ahead, refrigerate assembled lasagna, then bake before serving.
  • Allowing the lasagna to rest after baking helps the layers set and makes serving easier.
  • For crispier bacon, bake separately in the oven or cook in a skillet before crumbling.
