Ingredients
Scale
Pastry
- 1 package (17.3 oz) frozen puff pastry sheets (2 sheets), thawed
Filling
- 1 cup Nutella
- 2 ripe bananas, sliced
Egg Wash
- 1 egg
- 1 Tbsp water
Topping
- 1 Tbsp powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to ensure it reaches the right temperature for baking the puff pastry cups evenly and with a golden crust.
- Prepare muffin tin: Spray a muffin tin with nonstick cooking spray to prevent the pastry from sticking and to help remove the cups easily after baking.
- Roll and cut pastry: On a floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets. Cut them into approximately 4-inch squares, which will fit nicely into each muffin cup.
- Line muffin cups: Gently press each puff pastry square into the muffin tin cups, allowing some overhang around the edges. This will create a nice border once baked.
- Add filling: Spread about 1 tablespoon of Nutella into the base of each pastry cup, then layer the sliced bananas evenly on top of the Nutella.
- Apply egg wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Brush this mixture generously over the exposed edges of the puff pastry to help them develop a beautiful golden color during baking.
- Bake: Place the muffin tin in the oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the pastry cups are puffed up and golden brown.
- Cool and finish: Allow the cups to cool slightly before carefully removing them from the tin. Dust the tops with powdered sugar and serve warm for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Make sure the puff pastry is fully thawed before rolling to prevent cracking.
- Use ripe bananas for sweetness and better texture.
- You can substitute Nutella with any chocolate-hazelnut spread or even peanut butter for a twist.
- Serve immediately after baking to enjoy the flaky texture, though they can be reheated briefly if desired.
- For added texture, sprinkle chopped nuts on the Nutella layer before adding bananas.
